Attendant threatened motorist

PA Gisborne A rubbish dump worker who threatened to blow out the headlights of a car that arrived to dump rubbish minutes before closing time was fined $l5O and had a firearm confiscated by Mr P. T. Rice S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne.

George Moewai Kotuhi had earlier been convicted of presenting a firearm during an incident at the city dump. He later told the police he had presented the rifle to stop a man from “standing there arguing all day.” The Magistrate said he had taken into account the fact that the rifle was unloaded. The Court had received letters of recommendation from the city health inspector and the senior tip attendant regarding Kotuhi’s energy and enthusiasm, or as the Magistrate put it, perhaps undue enthusiasm at times.
