Ex-nuptial birthrate

PA Wellington Ex-nuptial pregnancies were less likely to occur in the 1970 s than in the 19605, according to two Waikato University sociologists, Professor lan Pool and Mr Clive Crawford, who presented a joint paper to the Demographic Society conference at Wellington. The paper, a study of life-cycles, said that of

every 1000 women born in 1945, 390 had been pregnant outside of marriage by their twenty-first birthday, whereas this was true for only 275 of those born in 1955.

The sociologists believe that the figures have policy implications, because ex-nuptial pregnancy at an early age influences all subsequent stages of the life-cycle.
