First Charolais sale in S.I. muted
A keen Australian buyer Injected some life into the Charolais sale at Timaru. Mr P. O’Grady, who farms near Melbourne, spent $6950 bn four females and a bull. The sale, the first official South Island sale for the breed, was considered to be satisfactory for females but only top-class bulls were sought. The top price of $2lOO went to two females. One was offered by the Eagle Corporation, of Brisbane, and was bought by a representative of Dalgety Australia, Ltd. The other, from Mount Peel station, Geraldine,
was bought by Mr H. C. Mille Balclutha. Earlier in the sale Messrs M. and J. H. M. Sutherland, t Waimate, passed in two of thq cows at $3OOO eacfi. The anima remained unsold after the sals The New Plymouth partnt ship of O’Sullivan Bros bought cow’ for $lOOO, two bulls for $6 each, and another bull for S 5( Of the 24 bulls offered on eight sold at auction, for i average of $B3l each. Two so for $1250 and one for $l2OO. Of the 24 females offered, were sold at auction, for | average of $787 each.
