Basketball team wins
PA Hastings The New Zealand women’s basketball team went two up in the four test series against the American side Mississippi with a 62-54 win in Hastings last night. In the first test at Auckland, New Zealand won 71-67 and the coach, Mr Ross Williams, of Auckland, was delighted by the performance of his team last night.
“The taller girls were 100 per cent better,” said Mr Williams.
The remaining tests are Christchurch and Dunedin. New Zealand came from be* hind in the closing stages of ths first period to lead 37-31 at half, time. Although they slipped bacH a little in the first few minute# of the second period, they soon regained control and were never headed.
Top scorers for New Zealand were Jo Johnson (Auckland), Caroline Grav (Hamilton), and Heather Grayburn (Otago)
