Drop in domestic orders

PA Wellington A total of 9257 matrimonial orders relating to domestic proceedings was made in New Zealand courts in 1978, compared with 9605 orders in the previous year. Of the orders made last year, 2440 were for separation, 3151 *or maintenance, 2521 for custody of children, 37 for guardianship, 206 for tenancy, 636 for possession of the matrimonial home, and 266 for non-molestation orders.

Of the separation orders. 2326 were made on the ground of serious disharmony only.

Custody orders were made to the mother only in 2162 cases and to the father only in 210 cases.

In domestic-proceedings cases regarding extra-nup-tial children, 3044 orders were made: 237 for paternity only, 145 for maintenance, and 1331 for both paternity and maintenance. The total compared with 3028 orders made in 1977.
