Hospital concern on tax
Some of the extra revenue from taxes on tobacco and alcohol should have been designated for com-munity-health projects, said the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Mr T. C. Grigg). “Hospital boards will be most concerned to see that the special con-
cessions instituted by the former Minister of Health, Mr Gill, seem now to have been dropped and that we are not getting even a percentage of these increased taxes for community health,” Mr Grigg said. Steps to ensure sound administration in health and hospital services were welcomed by Mr Grigg.
Financial support for an executive manpower-plan-ning workshop was a good move but it was important to ensure that this was accompanied by an improved career structure. In view of the financial restraints, Mr Muldoon’s assurances that no cuts in services were needed was comforting.
