Counties’ rugby win

PA Auckland. Mark Codlim has always been a most valuable member of the Counties rugby team and the versatile half-back proved his worth yet again on Saturday when he kicked all the points to lead Counties to a 12-6 win over North Auckland in a national first division championship match at Pukekohe Stadium. Codlim landed two first half penalties and only just missed a third when the ball hit high on the right hand upright and bounced back into play. Then, in the twelfth minute of the second

half, he snapped a great 35 metre dropped goal under extreme pressure for the decisive points of the game. Codlim’s final contribution came from a simple 15 metre penalty eight minutes from fulltime after the North Auckland forwards had been penalised when desperately defending in front of their posts. Counties win, coming on top of their recent victory over the defending national champion, Wellington, already places it in a strong position for the premier provincial championship.
