Corso collection
Early totals indicated tint ; Corso's collection in the Canternun-West Coast-Marl-borough region would be about the same as last year, said the organisation’s regional co-ordinator. Ms L. Jackson. About $70,000 was collected in the region last year. However, it appeared that the national total would be 5 per cent down on the 1978 total of $310,000. said Corso’s secretary (Mr T. Tntell) in Wellington yesterday. Only about two-thirds of the takings in Saturday’s
; door-to-door collection had’ ’been counted in ail main: centres last evening. - Mr Truell thought that; , ; takings for the South Island( would remain about the' same, most of the decline being in the North Island. He was reluctant to ( comment on reasons for the' (possible decline until final figures become available to- ■ morrow. I' “It could just be the econI omic climate, or that Corso has lost support because of the new film and its message: I just cannot tell yet,” he said.
