Refugees for Chch

A family of six Cambodian refugees is expected to arrive in Christchurch this morning. The four sisters and two brothers, aged from 16 to 34, are sponsored by the North-west City Churches Refugee Resettlement Committee. They are the first Cambodians sponsored by the Christchurch committee, bringing the total number of refugees sponsored to 56. The family has lived in

a Thailand refugee camp since 1975 where the eldest, Ly Khengsa Korn, was camp leader and chief interpreter. He speaks Cambodian, English, Thai, Cantonese, French, Vietnamese, and Mandarin. The rest of the family are photographers and are keen on tabletennis, dancing, swimming and basketball. They will Jive in a flat in Trafalgar Street, St Albans, and hope to find jobs in Christchurch.
