Russian trawler arrested
PA Wellington The Russian stem trawler Dneprodzrginsky was arrested 60 miles north of the Chatham Islands at 10 a.m. on Wednesday for allegedly fishing with an undersized mesh net within the 200mile economic zone. The arrest was announced by the Ministry of Fisheries yesterday. The trawler was licensed to fish in the zone, said the Director of the Fisheries Management Division (Mr B. Cunningham). A boarding party from the frigate Taranaki was aboard the trawler, which was expected to arrive at Wellington under escort at 1 p.m. today. An investigation of the alleged infringement of the zone regulations would follow. Mr Cunningham said;
