Late sport Win and loss for Canterbury
Special correspondent Auckland Canterbury has had a win and a loss from its first two ties at the Wisden Cup interprovincial badminton tournament in North Shore. It beat Otago, 11 matches to [five, but earlier was beaten, 19 games to 18, by Wanganui. The Canterbury challenge has been severely weakened by the loss of its leading woman Alison Ross. Miss Ross injured a leg against Wanganui and she has returned home. First round results were:— Section one.—Auckland 16, Hutt Valley 0; Wellington 10. Southland 6; WeUington 20 games. North Shore 18; Auckland 15, Southland 1. Section two.—Waitemata 14, Waikato 2; Waitemata 16, Otago 0; Wanganui 19 games. Canterbury 18; Waikato 12, Taranaki 4; Canterbury 11. Otago 5.
