BILATERAL AID PROGRAMME WESTERN SAMOA OVERSEER (MECHANICAL) OR LEADING HAND TRADESMAN THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS is seeking applicants at Overseer (MechanicalJ/Leading Hand level to work with the Department of Agriculture and Forests in Western Samoa. The appointment will be for a period of two years and the appointee will be required to take up duty in Western Samoa as soon as possible. The successful applicant will be responsible for training and overseeing local trades staff on the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles, plant, and range of general equipment used in connection with the reaforestation project at Asau on the island of Savaif. The appointee will also be required to oversee the procedure covering the provision of spare parts and to undertake inspection of repair work being carried out on contract. Salary will be negotiated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and location and child allowances (where applicable) will be paid to the successful applicant. Housing will be provided. Applicants must hold an Advanced Trade Certificate in Motor Mechanics or Auto-diesel and have had at least five years experience since qualifying. The appointments will be made under the New Zealand Bilateral Aid Programme and will be for a period of one year (with a possible extension to two years) commencing as soon as possible. NURSING SUPERVISOR OPERATING THEATRE The successful applicant will be a Registered General Nurse holding a Diploma of Nursing or equivalent qualification and with recent experience in the administration of operating theatres at the National Hospital and the effective co-ordination of the appropriate nursing services. Duties would include the following: — reception and nursing care of all patients in the operating theatre — maintenance and care of operating theatre equipment — liaison with medical and administrative staff for the efficient functioning of the operating theatres — responsibilities for Charge Nurse, Operating Theatre/Staffff Training. CHARGE NURSE OPERATING THEATRE/STAFF TRAINING The successful applicant will be a Registered General Nurse with experience in operating theatre nursing and staff training. Diploma of Nursing (or an equivalent) preferable. He or she will be responsible to the Nursing Supervisor and will be required to develop staff training programmes for nursing staff engaged in surgical nursing, in particular operating theatre nursing staff. Duties will include the following: — assist in the development and training of a nurse to assume the leadership role in the operating theatre — liaison with the school of nursing to provide advice on operating theatre nursing component of the student nurse curriculum and supervise nurses in the operating theatre. Salary will be negotiated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and location and child allowances (where applicable) are payable. Housing will be provided by the Western Samoa Government. Resourcefulness and an ability to adapt to a working environment substantially different from ■ that in New Zealand and to establish a good working relationship with the local staff will be essential.
