Some grades of beef fall again

Prices for some classes of beef for export have been reduced again 10c a kilogram, on top of the drop of 10c for all grades a week ago.

The grades which will fall again from Monday are manufacturing ox, heifer and cow, and also bull. A meat industry spokesman said that there was no buoyancy on the American market and no sales were being made. If present trends continued, prices for prime grades might fall again, too. However there was better news for sheepfarmers with lambs still to sell. The prices for lamb meat of all grades, except over-fats and cutters, have been raised again 2c a kilogram. This movement is based on returns expected in Britain in August, September and October. But all woolly and shorn lamb skins will be 20c cheaper next week, the fall being mainly because of an easing in pelt values, and lower wool prices. However, sheep skin prices have been

raised 10c, reflecting an improvement in pelt prices. The new prices are: BEEF Manufacturing.—Ox: Up to 143 kg, 121 c per kg; 145.5 to 170 kg, 124 c; 170.5 to 195 kg, 127 c; 195.5 to 220 kg, 129 c; over 220.5 kg, 130 c.
