Beach rescues
Eighteen rescues were made at Canterbury beaches during the summer, the Canterbury Surf Life-saving Association said in a report to the Rangiora District Council. One of the rescues was at Waikuku Beach. The association thanked the council for its financial support. The Labour Department provided $12,753 and the Christchurch City Council, Waimairi County Council, and Rangiora District Council provided $3371.
