Crippled boat safe
PA Auckland An American pleasure boat is under tow to Auckland after she broke down 170 miles north-west of Cape Reinga on Friday evening. The 20m Crabbie, with her American owner, Mr Bruce Crabtree, and his wife, Alex, on board, sent out a distress call after her rudder broke and left her without steering.
An Auckland Launch and Towboat Company vessel Hikurangi left port late on Friday night and reached the stricken boat about 5 p.m. on Saturday. Mr H. L. Julian, managing director of the Auckland tow firm, said last evening that everything was under control and the Crabbie would probably be towed into Auckland this afternoon.
