Nelson tug will lie idle
PA Nelson I The Port of Nelson may Ibe closed to most shipping until Thursday while the Arbitration Court at Wel- ■ lington considers the dismissal of a local tug engineer. The Nelson Harbour Board’s No. 1 tug, W. H. Parr, needed to help bigger vessels in and out of port, will lie idle without the engineer. One vessel is at anchor because the tug is unavailable and the next big shin is due on Sunday. The engineer’s job was threatened in February because of his alleged late return from holidays. The dispute, which began in February, was defused then with the engineer’s reinstatement pending the Arbitration Court hearing. Mr D. J. Munro, the secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Marine and Power Engineers, said from Wellington yesterday that although another Nelson board employee had relieved in the W. H. Parr, he would not be allowed to do so until the case had been settled.
