School milk biscuits?
The School Committees’ Federation, concerned about the poor nutrition of some children, .wants milk biscuits made available to them through schools at a small charge. The annual conference of the federation in Christchurch, during the week-end, adopted a remit seeking negotiations with the Health Department for milk biscuits to be made available to children through schools. The Auckland branch, which put forward the remit, said that many children had little or no breakfast, and had no- provision made for their lunch.
Delegates 'also asked in a remit that when a proposed school integration agreement has been drawn up, all interested parties, on request, be given the right to comment before the agreement is signed by the Minister of Education. They 'want this clause added to the Integration Act.
The Eastern Southland branch said that the act at present gave discretion to the Minister of Education and education boards about who was consulted.
Mr C. A. Shaw, of South Otago, was re-elected president of the federation. Mr J. H. Gillespie, of Auckland, was re-elected vice-president.
