Peake and Tiva likely Winton combination
Special correspondent Invercargill Historv could repeat itself at Invercargill today when top northern jockey, David Peake, combines with Tiva in the Ancient Bottle Gin Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Winton Jockey Club’s Autumn meeting. Two years ago almost to the day, Peake successfully combined with Tiva for a runaway six lengths win in the corresponding event. Later that season Peake rode Tiva when third in the Parliamentary Handicap on the second dav of the Wellington Racing Club’s winter meeting. Tiva’s progress last season was retarded by a minor injury but judging by his latest efforts he has come back better than ever and will be a top fancy in today’s contest. Miles Better, which impressively completed a hat-trick of wins in the Riverton Cup will be Tiva’s most respected rival. There will be support too, for the established winter gallopers, Charlson, a likely improver, and Fleetwood Mac, both of which would be suited by a deterioration in track conditions. David Peake will ride the former northerner, Wandah, in the Ron Rico Rum Handicap, second leg of the double. Forest Gate and Dual, however. make more appeal, and Kranal’s grand Riverton form also entitle him to respect.
