Major expansion by Computer Bureau
International Computers l NZ Ltd have announced' receipt of contracts worth I 53.7 M from CBL Holdings, Ltd, which operates bureau*; i in Auckland, Christchurch, I Hamilton and Wellington. | The key element of these contracts is an order for two ICL 2950 computer systems which will be delivered in August to CBL Auckland. Under the supervision of an ICL project management i team, these, will replace the; kurrent ICL 1902 T computer! systems. Among the major contracts to be serviced on this equipment are processing for NZ Motor Corporation and the Fletcher Group of Companies. CBL Waikato and CBL Wellington are to take delivery of smaller 2900 systems on expiry of the current contracts. CBL Wellington will receive one of the 1902 T’s released by Auckland on an interim basis. Also ordered are ten ICL 1500 systems to provide a
new remote data collection/printing service to CBL clients, initially from CBL's Auckland bureau. A New Zealand first is CBL’s order for four ICL [9512 point-of-sale- retail terminals, installation of which is to be in Christchurch and Hamilton. Based on these units, CBL plans a drive on this rapidly emerging market. Commenting on the order, ;CBL's chief executive (Dr G. 18. Battersby) said, “Installation of the new 2950 computers ensures that our major clients will be assured of up-to-date processing facilities well into the 1980’s with the provision of on-line facilities as they need them —al! at a competitive cost. “We are enthusiastic about the market opportunities that the new equipment will now offer CBL in addition to providing continuity of service and enhanced facilities through existing users,” he said.
