Hard words for Water Polo Board
“Centres and clubs are slowly but surely killing the New Zealand Water Polo Board,” the chairman of that board (Mr G. S. Brockett) told the annual meeting last evening. Mr Brockett said in his annual report that the setting up of the board’s secretariat at the national swimming office had been expected to take 30 per cent of the time of the officer, Mr P. S. Wild “Instead, it is occupying 70 or 80 per cent of his time sometimes 1 more. It is the same lor the board members, all amateurs, being asked to increase their output Is it any wonder that the national board is showing signs of creaking?” asked Mr Brockett. I The frank discussion of the [year’s activities included each board being asked for us main I complaints against ihe New Zealand board: and they ■were not slow in forthcoming. Many of the complaints
y focused on communi cations, but i- Mr Brockett’s report made tho e point that “no-one is capable ot I. entering a competition at the d due date, with the entry fee, . “Of eight national tournaments, seven were redrawn, 11 some more than twice Sorry, ' but we are getting scratchy, “ too.” said Mr Brockett. “The !r ball has burst as we see it, "’ with this recent national press (exposure” (on national team oSappointment). r “I. just hope that acme good t . can come out of that; otherwise, e there will be only local pockets of water polo in New Zealand ,-. The answer to the effectiveness t of the New Zealand board is in your hands.” • I Auckland's delegate. Ils chairliman, Mr J. E. Maztoleni, said n ; New Zealand water polo was ■till the rest of the country it-against the board. We have to straighten out. or we are head :s ■ ing for destruction ”
