The appointee will be in charge of the Organisation’s Library and will be largely involved in the preparation of bibliographies for staff and the maintenance of a current awareness (SDI) service. Established twelve years ago in a new laboratory building, the Library now holds a wide range of material on pure and applied science, and a large collection concerned with textiles and business aspects of the wool industry. The Library serves a staff of over 80, and also assists staff of Industrial Members of the Organisation when required. Applicants should preferably have a professional library qualification, Dip. N.Z.L.S. or equivalent. Previous experience in a scientific library would be an advantage, but applicants with other suitable qualifications and experience will be considered. An ability to communicate well and write good English is desirable. A commencing salary within a fairly wide range is available according to qualifications and experience. The job also entails, snow clearing and call out work where necessary’ and some construction work would be available to an experienced operator. The Council operates modern Champion Graders and the operator carries out his own maintenance work on the machine. Hours being worked at present are 881 per fortnight and the gross wage is approximately $340 per fortnight. These hours increase to 98 per fortnight during the construction season.
