Mr D. S. Murchison dead

The death occurred in Christchurch recently of Mr Donald Sinclair Murchison, a former prominent Christchurch solicitor. He was 87.

He was bom at Lyttelton and educated at Christ’s College. Mr Murchison founded the firm of Murchison and Wood in 1923 after service overseas during World War I during which he was awarded the D.S.O. and attained the rank of major in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles.

During World War 11, Mr Murchison was the Canterbury district commander of the Home Guard with the rank of colonel. He was on the board of governors of Christ’s College for more than 30 years, and was a director of the New Zealand Shipping Company for 26 years. Until six years ago Mr Murchison was still practicing as a solicitor. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
