Repeat bowls victory
Wally Wilkinson ended his' association with Beckenham on a winning note when he won the annual Pegasus bowls tournament on Sun-I day. Next summer Wilkinson I will be playing at Linwood. I It was also his second success in the event and it was with the same team of Denis O'Caliaghan. Bob Tin-’ son and Kevin McMenaminj that he took the inaugural! tournament two years ago. Wilkinson was the only four-game winner at New Brighton, where the top 16 teams from the qualifying rounds on Saturday com-! peted yesterday. There were four teams with three wins and in a roll-off it was another Beckenham entry that took second prize. This was Clarrie Bate-! man’s four of Cliff Bowman,! who skipped. John Bateman! and Neil Crampton. Frank Carter’s Fendalton team of Arthur Ansley. Les Dunbar and John Pugh was third and fourth place went to the Dallington combination of Graham Brosnan. George Gray, Charlie Ford and Andy Hamilton (s). Consolation tournaments were held yesterday for the non-qualifiers and at Sumner the placings were Ossie Cowie (Linwood) I, Bruce Mason (Canterbury) 2, Ray
( Motion (Watkari) 3, while at i South Brighton it was Joe ! Petrie (Opawa) I. Trevor ; Flaus (New Brighton) 2 and | Toni Lilley (Hoon Hat IW.M.C.). i The tournament, which J was sponsored by Lion Bre'weries and Super Value, r drew 54 entries and it was the last major event of the , Christchurch season.
