Situation: An anticyclone centred to the south-east of the South Island extends a broad ridge of high pressure across New Zealand. A cold front is moving eastwards across the south Tasman Sea and is expected to move on to the south of the South Island tomorrow. Forecasts: Canterbury: Fine at first: north-easterlies developing and cloud increasing; a few showers likely in the south.
Marlborough, Nelson: Fine, northerlies about the Sounds but otherwise light or moderate variable winds. Buller, Westland: Moderate north-easterlies; cloudy in Buller with occasional showers from afternoon; overcast, with rain, in Westland, clearing from the south late in the day, with winds becoming light and variable; moderate temperatures. Outlook: fair in all district.
