London market
The London market opened the week on a mixed note as profit-taking crept in because considerations of ian early General Election I has pushed prices up the previous Friday. I However, on Tuesday : shares and Government bonds rose sharply in active trading with investors still | hoping for an early General 'Election. Sentiment was also helped by the strength of sterling. I The undertone of the market remained firm on i Wednesday, although share ' prices closed below the 'day’s highs ahead of the no confidence vote in Parliament.
On Thursday share prices closed mixed as early steep gains made on hopes of a Conservative election victory were sharply reduced on profit-taking. Closing prices on Friday of a selection of shares were:
