Jewellery worth $40,000 lost

PA Palmerston North An elderly Foxton woman has lost $40,000 worth of jewellery, including a $5OOO emerald and diamond piece. The jewellery disappeared on March 15 when she was moving to live in Christchurch.

The Levin police said yesterday that the woman did not know whether her jewellery had been stolen, lost, or misplaced. Included in the list of missing pieces are a diamond watch, gold earrings, an oldgold fob watch with a large amethyst and large topaz drops, a gold and ruby brooch, an old Scots pin for

fastening a kilt; necklaces, pearls, and earrings. The woman put the jewellery in a plastic bag which was then placed in a brown paper bag and put on top of a box of antique books. The box, with the jewels, was taken out of her car so that she could load the vehicle but she forgot to put the box back into the car and left it standing in the carport. Between Thursday and Saturday the jewels disappeared. Only the box of books remained. The woman is now in Christchurch.
