University research
Research grants of $36,000 have been made to the University of Canterbury. A grant of S2LOOO has been made by the United States Manufacturing Chemists’ Association to Professor L. F. Phillips, of the university’s chemistry department, for research into atomic oxygen yields from photolysis. The Golden Kiwi scientific
research distribution committee has made two grants from lottery profits. One of $lO,OOO is to Dr P. W. Harland, of the chemistry department. to buy equipment for a mass spectrometer. The other, of $5OOO, is made to Professor W. C. Clark, of the zoology department, to buy an automatic camera.
