Boost in permits

No depression existed in Paparua County judging by the number of building permits issued last month, said the Count5 7 Chairman (Mr J. Y. Pethig) at yesterdays meeting of the Paparua County Council's finance committee. The number of permits} issued totalled 110, worth $836,270; $2872 was collected in fees by the council. I In the corresponding period last year, 81 permits iwere issued for a total value of $635,445, and $2092 was collected in fees. The average value of buildings or alterations done under permit has changed little in the last year. The average for March last year was $7845. compared with} this year’s figure of $7602. The council will have to write off 1 per cent of its rates levy for the year ending March 31. An average of 94 per cent of rates has so far been collected in the Sockburn, Hornby, Halswell and rural districts. It is expected that the outstanding amounts will be reduced before the end of .the month.
