Motorists unmoved
Car pooling does not appear to have captured the imagination or enthusiasm of Christchurch motorists, according to a survey by “The Press.” “The Press” ran a series of free columns for motorists seeking car pool contacts, but a snap survey of 15 of the advertisers revealed that only four had received any replies a day after their advertisement appeared. Of the four, one said that he would begin his car pool with another motorist going from Bishopdale to Addington when, and if, earless days
began. Another, wanting to share cars from Halswell Road tr Christchurch Hospital, said that she had had one telephone call and there was a “vague possibility” of an arrangement being made. A Redcliffs motorist wanting to form a pool to go to Kilmore Street said that he had received two replies but no decision had been made. An Oxford motorist wanting to share cars to Christchurch had received a call but no arrangements had been made yet. An enterprising Kaiapoi
traveller who advertised did not get a reply, but saw some hope in another advertiser and got in touch with her. They were to meet and discuss the idea of sharing cars to Shirley. Among those who had no replies were motorists wanting to share cars from Bishopdale to Cathedral Square, Burwood to Riccarton, Avonhead to the city, Huntsbury to Christchurch east, Richmond to Liuwood Avenue, Tonies Road to Kilmore Street, and Halswell to Sydenham.
