Restrictions on heating oil

Sir, — There is no quesa tion that ducted central heating systems using oil furnaces will eventually be phased out — and the sooner the better. For the past 10 years I have had a ducted central heating system using an electric furnace, and while I wince at power charges, at least the choice is there, whether to switch on and conserve fossil fuels or not. Any form of heating using imported material is inexcusable. Electric furnaces operate on true solar power — the sun heats up the Tasman and obligingly fills our lakes and will do so forever. There is no need to go cold or throw away ducting; just choose the" right furnace. — Yours, etc., DAVID EASTERBROOK. March 25, 1979.
