Kawerau stoppage

PA Auckland Timber workers at the Tasman Pulp and Paper plant at Kawerau will meet at 8 a.m. this morning to decide if they will return to work and end a 24-hour stoppage.

The 450 workers stopped work yesterday in protest against a lack of housing for them at the plant. However, union representa-

tives met the management and there is hope of a return today. A company spokesman said the whole housing situation was explained to the men. He would not comment any further on the matter. It is thought that if the men decide to prolong their action, supplies of newsprint and pulp might be affected.
