Veterans to lead
Two 1906 Cadillas will today lead the first rally organised by the recently formed Banks Peninsula branch of the Vintage Car Club.
Close behind will be one of the most unusual cars in the rally, a 1908 Humber Landaulette driven by Mr G. Bain. Another rare model to make the trip will be a 1914 Prince Henry Vauxhall, one of only seven in the world, driven by Mr N. Price.
The 45km drive to Diamond Harbour will begin at
10 a.m. from Deans Bush, Riccarton, the starting point for many of the first vintage and veteran rallys held in New Zealand when the Vintage Car Club was formed in the early 19505. Forty-seven veteran cars and motor-cycles will take part in the rally. To qualify as veterans, they must have been built before December 31, 1918. Cars from clubs as far afield as Timaru and Blenheim will take part.
