Men guilty of P.O. burglary
After deliberating for a little over an hour a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday found two men guilty on a joint charge of burglary of the North New Brighton Post Office on December 18.
Mr Justice Somers remanded David Huia Ranganui, aged 39, and Robert Reece Kohu, aged 33, both unemployed, in custody to March 2 for sentence.
Mr R. L. Kerr appeared for the Crown, Mr E. H. Parsons for Ranganui and Mr D. I. Jones for Kohu. Evidence was given that the two accused broke into the post office in Bowhill Road about 11.30 p.m. by smashing a window. The sound of the breaking glass was heard by a neighbour who called the police. Ranganui was apprehended outside the broken window. Kohu jumped out the window and was later apprehended hiding in the sandhills.
