Advisory Council PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the newly established position of Public Affairs Officer on the staff of the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council in Wellington. The appointee’s duties will primarily involve projecting the purpose, policies and activities of the Council and its Committees to the New Zealand public, and the dissemination of information on alcohol-related matters to all levels of the community. The successful applicant will therefore be required to assist with the preparation and dissemination of newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, and press releases; address clubs, public meetings and private organisa- I tions; participate in seminars and workshops for schools, and for in service training programmes at teacher's colleges, universities, technical institutes, hospital boards, etc, and assist with the preparation of the Council’s advertising campaign promoting moderation in drinking and reducing the abuse of alcohol. , A high capability in education and information methods; and ability to communicate at all levels including public speaking and a willingness to spend frequent periods promoting and encouraging regional interests will be necessary. An appropriate degree of equivalent qualification and experience in journalism, public relations and/or education will be distinct advantages. Salary will be according to qualifications and experience but will initially be $14,000. approximately. .
