Down the Aisle wins
NZPA Sydney The New Zealand-bred Down The Aisle (Imperialist-1 Bridesmaid), a 590.000 purchase at the 1977 Trentham Yearling Sales, leapt into; contention for the 5200.000 A.J.C. Derby with a brilliant! finishing burst to win the 1400 m Henry Kendal Handicap for three-year-olds at' Randwick on Saturday. Having his second start from a spell, the colt won narrowly after coming front; ninth on the tum and peg-' ging back a big break gained' on the field by Lord Dignus. | The apprentice jockey, | Wayne Harris, was looking, for his fifth win of the day, on Lord Dignus, and seemed, to have the race in his keep-; ing when four lengths clear; halfway down the straight.. But Down The Aisle reached ; him right on the line to] snatch a nose decision. The trainer, Bart Cum- 1 mings, said that Down The; Aisle would now be set for; the Derby at Randwick on, April 16, and would tackle j the Canterbury Guineas. 1900 m and the RoshilT Guineas 2000 m as his leadup races.
