Assault in cell

A prisoner on remand for drunkenness was assaulted by three other prisoners in the cell block •at the Christchurch Centra! Police Station yesterday. The incident, the first of its kind at the staiton for years, occurred during the lunch-time adjournment of the Magistrate's Court. The victim, aged 32, was punched and kicked several times before policemen on duty in the watchhouse could subdue the assailants, who are aged 15, 19, and 23. The three, who had been remanded in custody on other charges, will appear in court again today charged with assault. They spent last evening in the cells at the station. The victim of the assault was moved to Addington Prison.
