Abolition of tax sought
NZPA London I A call for the abolition of Bri- : tain’s on-course betting tax was made by representatives of the! racing industry when they met Treasury officials. The racing deputation pre-' ! sented the case for the abolition of un-course tax on the I grounds that it would stimulate : racecourse attendances and boost! the on-course betting market. | ! Attention was also drawn to! the continuing problems of value i added tax (V.A.T.) on the bloodstock industry and Treasury officials said that they would give ' the matters full consideration. In Britain, punters are served by off-course betting shops where up-to-the-minute odds are displayed on video screens and race commentaries provided.
