What’s behind this mask?
By WHIM WHAM The O.E.C.D. report contains a clear message that exporting must become more profitable if the country is to see economic growth again and that this may mean a radical restructuring of the economy, etc., etc.—News. By the Time this reaches You — I’m out of Town, somewhere— The Topic may not be new, And a Little the worse for Weai. There’s an Oracle (of a Sort) That’s called 0.E.C.D., To whose prophetic Report Economists bow the Knee. Economists bow the Knee. Our Leaders heedfuliy hearken. The Gods have thundered—see How the Storm Clouds darken'. What does the Oracle say? Shall we listen, and obey It ? Will It guide us right, or astray” How much do we have to pay It? The Kiddies read their Comics, My Tastes are more Adult, I study my Economics — With much the same Result. I dream of Power (don’t You?) With every Page I scan— The remarkable Things I'd do, If I were Superman! And I’d set about this Task— RESTRUCTURING the Place. In my O.E.C.D. Mask, You’ll never see my Face— I’ll fix your LONG-TERM TREND. The Way you should support One — And just you wait, my Friend! While I hit you in the SHORT One
