Long trip for dogs
NZPA Canberra Klavi and Dick, two husky [sledge dogs bred at the Australian Antarctic station at Mawson, will make a round trip through Melbourne and Christchurch, just to get back to another part of the Antarctic.
Two huskies bred at New Zealand’s Scott Base will reverse the route.
The Australian Department of Science and Environment says that the exchange of dogs is intended to introduce fresh blood into the husky packs at both Mawson and Scott Base.
