Students fill job-schemes
PA Wellington! A total of 31,041 people! had been found employment' under the Government's job-; creation schemes as at January 12, the Minister ofj Labour (Mr Bolger) announced yesterday.
This was an increase of 1435 over the number in the scheme as at December 15. The increase was largely a result of the number of students placed in community work during the vacation under the student community service programme, aid Mr Bolger. In the private sector, 8621 people were employed under job-creation programmes. Of these, 3841 were engaged in work under the farm employment scheme, 1058 under the skill-promotion
programme, 1315 under the I first-job programme, and 12407 under the additional--1 jobs programme. Over all, the private sec--1 tor programmes provided work for an additional 391 workers since December 15 [last. In the public sector, where 122,420 people were emi ployed, 4342 tertiary students were engaged under the student community service programme, 9475 by Government departments, 1757 by education and hospital boards, and 6846 by local authorities and community groups. The over-all increase in numbers in the public sector since December 15 was 1044, of which 1032 occurred in the student community service programme.
