Girl returns: arrest made
A young man has been arrested in connection with .the abduction of a young Australian schoolteacher in Christchurch on Wednesday evening. He will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on three charges: abduction, assault with in - tent to facilitate a crime, and attempted rape. The schoolteacher, Helen Margaret Soutter, aged 23, of Brisbane, had been staying with her cister and two friends at the Youth Hostel Association's hostel in Rolleston Avenue. She went out alone for
i a walk at 8-30 p.m. on i Wednesday, and a big police search was mounted when she was found to be i still missing yesterday morning. Miss Soutter finally arrived back at the hostel about 1 p.m. yesterday in x a distressed state. The young man was arrested last evening after eight hours of intensive in- , quiries by a team of detectives. I Depositions would be taken when the man appeared in court today, a C. 1.8. spokesman said.
