Good’s road race

Tony Good (New Brighton) took an early lead in the annua] 30km road running race from Christchurch to Rangiora last evening and won in the good time of 1 hour 47min 5 seconds.

Second-placed Gavin Donaldson (Christchurch) was more than three minutes behind Good, but over five minutes and a half ahead of Brendan Daly (Rovers). Kathryn Ball (Christchurch) won the women’s race over the same distance, in a time of 2hr 31 min 32sec. Second was D. Stead anti third was B. Tweedie. Points leader in the Canterbury Road Runners Association championship, J. K. Macdonald, was the first veteran home, followed by Vic Sykes (Christ-

church). The third veteran was the fast-improving Eric Hunter, who took up running only recently.

The race was run in warm con ditions, which forced several runners to withdraw. About 120 started, including 25 “fun’’ runners who paid $3 registration for the one race. Results:—
