Auckland softballers lose

Auckland had its first loss in section A of the national secondary schoolgirls softball tournament at Lincoln College yesterday. It lost to Counties, 6-7. These two teams and Hutt Valley are now level at the top of the points table with a loss each.

Canterbury lost its chance to be in second place in section B when it was beaten, 6-3, by Hawke’s Bay. Final section games, semi-finals, and the final will be played today. Results:—

Section A: Auckland 10, Southland 0; Nelson 14, Buller 0; Hutt

Valley 25, Horowhenua 3; Counties 7, Auckland 6; Southland 14, Whangarei 4; Hutt Valley 16, Buller 2.

Section B: Wellington 14, Otago 2; Hawke’s Bay 13, South Otago 0; Canterbury 13, North Shore 3; West Coast 13, Marlborough 5; Wellington 8, Manawatu 4; Otago 30, South Otago 8; North Shore 11, West Coast 10; Hawke’s Bay 6, Canterbury
