P 'X Wellington Letters to President Carter urging sanctions against whaling countries have been called for by the United States-based Greenpeace organisation. A Greenpeace spokesman in Wellington, Mr Neil Newman, has urged the New Zealand public to write to the President.

The call follows certification by the United States Secretary of Commerce (Mrs Juanita Kreps) that Peru, Chile, and Korea are in violation of international conservation regulations because of their continued whaling. This means that President Carter has the option of invoking the Pelley amendment against these , nations, banning United States imports of tneir seafood products.
