M.P. plans to fight

PA Auckland The Labour member of Parliament for Hunua, Mr M. Douglas, intends to crosspetition in a counter to the National Party move to have him ousted.

In a Supreme Court action, the National Party has lodged a petition alleging corrupt and illegal practices by Labour in Hunua during the General Election in November.

Mr Douglas elected with a majority of 301, said his own intention was to cross-petition, but he had yet to speak to party officials.

“I expect a firm decision about Wednesday,” he said. Petitions seeking disallowance of votes or the nullification of a poll in particular electorates are allowed to be lodged until the end of the month.
