Sound suburban balling
The seventh round of the; I Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association’s senior A competition began on Saturday with most teams matching the favourable weather conditions with sound batting. The highest total of the day was produced by Upper Riccarton, which was all out for 296, after being sent in to bat. Allan Kerr (80) and Nigel Pearson (71) put on 114 for the third wicket, while Alan Muir made 23 and Mike Walsh was undefeated on 35.
Ken Taylor toiled very hard indeed for his seven for 100. At stumps Woolston W.M.C. was 42 for three with Dave Kennedy getting an early break through when he captured two wickets for three runs.
At Edgar Mclntosh Park, Hornby was sent in to bat and although it scored 214. with Bob Kerr making a splendid 84 and Peter Burton compiling a dogged 28, the side’s record of first innings leads could be broken next week. Hornby had to contend with steady bowling from Paul Hammond Tour for 38) and Dave McNaughton Three for 39).
At stumps. Merivale-Papanui was 72 for two with Nick Ebert
completing his half-century just before stumps. The competition leader. Sumner was in a strong position at stumps, being 116 for seven in reply to Waltham’s 104. of which Bruce Jenkins made 30 and Mike Eddington 24. Bowling for Seiner. John Graham deserved his six for 53, while for Waltham Karl Siave took four for 45. The top scorer for Suinner was Robert Campbell with a well compiled 36. At Hoon Hay Park, the local side was dismissed for 193, thanks mainly to Stephen Stuart and John Neilson making solid scores of 61 and 43 respectively. George Humm made 24 and a promoted high school boy. Norm Strez, contributed 20. Bowling for Belfast, Terry Cockburn finished with four for 30 and Russell Hortin three for 62. At stumps, Belfast was 60 for
