‘Chilean agency ordered killing*
NZPA-Reuter Washington A key United States Government witness has told a Federal Court that the Chilean intelligence service, D.1.N.A., ordered him to (murder an exiled Chilean diplomat, Orlando Leteleir. An American expatriate, Michael Townley, who has lived in Chile for the past 20 years, said he joined D.I.N.A. after the 1973 military coup d’etat which overthrew the Socialist President, Salvador Allende, who was killed. He agreed to testify as a prosecution witness in exchange for a lighter sentence and the promise of an early parole and has confessed to placing the bomb that blew up Mr Letelier’s car on a Washington street.
