Wool prices variable
PA Wanganui Fleece sold in buyers’ favour at the Wanganui wool sale yesterday but brokers confirmed that sec-ond-shear wools were firm, some being inclined in sellers’ favour. Lambs’ wool was erratic, but over all rates were unchanged on Auckland, and oddments were firm, said the official report. The offering of 29.752 bales of greasy woo! included 41 per cent ewe fleece, 28 per cent early-shorn. 20 per cent lambs’ wool and the usual oddments. The main competition came from the Continent and Eastern Europe, with support from Japan. The adjusted weighted average sale price (awasp)
yesterday was 203.77 c per kg. A government supplementary payment of 0.6 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and until midnight on January 23. The range of prices was:—
Fine crossbred, 50-52s: Good 220 to 226 Average 209 to 219 Poor 198 to 208 Fine crossbred. 48-50s: Good 218 to 224 Average 208 to 217 Poor 197 to 207 Medium crossbred, 48-50s: Good 216 to 222 Average 206 to 215 Poor Lambs Fine crossbred, 48-50s: and 50s: 196 to 205 Good 220 to 229 Average 207 to 219 Inferior 196 to 206 Second crossbred 4850. Average 184 to 191 Interior 179 to 183
