Stiff test for Wgtn

PA Wellington Wellington meets today what is probably the world’s top cricket side — Pakistan. Coming from its drawn game against Northern Districts during the week, Wellington looks to be in good form, but the all-round strength of the tourists will test it to the hilt. As shown in its game

against Central Districts, Pakistan has a fine bowling attack, with pace from Imran Khan and Sarfraz Nawaz, backed up by Sikhander Bakht. But it does not end there, as the opening batsman, Mudassar Nazar, is also a medium pacer. After its impressive, consistent batting display down the order at Palmerston

North, the Pakistan team will have the Wellington attack working overtime to get wickets. Mudassar, Asif Iqbal, Mohsin Khan and Talaat Ali all demonstrated their stylish stroke-making in the nine-wicket win over Central, and they will be seeking to repeat the dose in order to win positions in the team for the first test. The Wellington team is: John Morrison (captain), Bruce Edgar, Graham Newdick, Robert Vance, Brian Cederwall, Jeremy Coney, John Topp, Allan Hewson, Peter Petherick, Ewen Chatfield, Bruce Taylor and Evan Gray. The Pakistan team will be announced this morning.
