PA Oamaru Arrangements are nearing completion for a celebritystudded Cantabrian rugby team to tour Britain and Italy in March this year. The tour spokesman for the Cantabrians, lan Hurst, yesterday announced the players who would be taking part. The team includes former All Blacks and present provincial players. The team has 13 recent All Blacks including Fergie McCormick, Joe Morgan, lan Hurst, Duncan Robertson, Sid Going, Lin Davis, Alex Wylie, lan Kirkpatrick, Ken Stewart, Hamish McDonald, Kerry Tanner. Tane Norton and "Bill Bush (subject to N.Z.R.F.U. clearance). In addition several prominent provincial players will benefit from the overseas touring experience. These include Randall

Scott, Andy Jefford, Bernie Fraser, Kieran Keane, Dave Thompson, Vance Stewart (Canterbury), Dave Aubrey (North Otago), Grant Perry (Mid-Canterbury), Al Keown (Wellington, at present playing in France). Professor Jim Stewart, the very successful Canterbury coach, will manage and coach the side.

The Cantabrian tour comes to fruition after the invitation from the Public Schoo! Wanderers Club, a well known charity club in Britain.

Tour arrangements have undergone 18 months negotation and the N.Z.R.F.U. has given its support. “Fixtures arranged will ensure the Cantabrian team of formidable competition,’’ said Mr Hurst. These include the two strong Welsh sides, Neath

and Pontypool, David Duckham’s Coventry, Morley, a county side in Devon, Brixham, a Public School Wanderers’ invitation side, and an “international” in Rome against an Italian selection made up of players who play or have played for Italy.

The team will leave New Zealand on March 2 and return on March 28.

Arrangements allow for the party to see two of the five national championship matches, England v. France at Twickenham, and Wales v. England at Cardiff.

Such a tour will enable up-and-coming players the opportunity to play alongside experienced internationals together with offering recently retired players a chance to tour internationally as a player again.
